The world lost a legendary musical giant last month when Tony Bennett died. We’re left with our memories and treasured recordings. I wonder if you knew that one of those recordings was from our very own Neighborhood – in 1975. Not with Lady Gaga – but with Lady Elaine!
I thought you might like to know how that came about, and I figured David Newell (Mr. McFeely and our PR Director) with his remarkable memory could tell us the story. It was an ordinary day when David remembers answering a phone call from Tony Bennett’s agent. He said Tony was going to be performing in Pittsburgh and wanted to meet Fred because his older daughter, who was about 5 years old at the time, was a big fan of the Neighborhood.
Talking With Children About Politics
When an election is coming up, news and conversations about politics are all around us. Even with limited exposure to the media, young children are almost certain to hear something about elections from televisions, their friends and classmates, and their families.
Grandfamilies are a unique family structure in which grandparents assume the role of primary caregivers for their grandchildren. Dynamics of these intergenerational families can be challenging to navigate, both as a member of the family and as a helper to the family.
Meeting children where they are means meeting them with kindness and without judgment. A willingness and an effort to understand where someone is emotionally in a particular moment can be very impactful, especially as things change over time.
Your financial support of the Institute helps us expand our initiatives and resources so that educators and children's helpers can continue to learn and grow from Fred Rogers' legacy. Thank you!
